Luxury hotels are designed to create memorable guest experiences, and flooring plays a much bigger role than many developers initially realize. It is one of the first interior elements guests notice when entering the lobby and one of the few materials they interact with throughout their entire stay.
However, specifying engineered wood flooring for a hotel is fundamentally different from selecting flooring for a residential project. Every area within the hotel serves a different purpose, experiences different traffic levels, and requires a different balance between aesthetics, durability, and maintenance.
At YEHUI, we believe that a successful hotel flooring project is not about choosing the most expensive product. It is about selecting the right specification for each space while maintaining a consistent design language throughout the property.
Project Overview
A luxury hotel developer approached YEHUI looking for a flooring solution that could combine timeless European elegance with long-term commercial performance.
The project included the hotel lobby, reception area, guest corridors, VIP suites, and standard guest rooms, covering approximately 8,500 square meters.
The architect wanted every area to share the same visual identity while ensuring the flooring could withstand the different operational demands of each space.
The primary objectives were:
- Create a premium and consistent interior appearance
- Reduce long-term maintenance and renovation costs
- Ensure compatibility with underfloor heating
- Maintain colour consistency across multiple production batches
- Improve lifecycle value rather than simply reducing initial costs
The Challenge
One of the biggest challenges in hospitality flooring is that different hotel spaces experience completely different levels of traffic.
The lobby and reception welcome hundreds of guests every day, with continuous movement of luggage, housekeeping trolleys, and maintenance equipment.
Guest rooms, on the other hand, experience significantly lighter daily use while placing greater emphasis on comfort, warmth, and acoustic performance.
Using the same flooring specification throughout the hotel may simplify procurement, but it often leads to unnecessary investment in low-traffic areas or insufficient durability in public spaces.
The goal was therefore to develop a specification that delivered one architectural style while responding to the functional requirements of each hotel area.
YEHUI Recommended Flooring Solution
Instead of recommending one specification for the entire building, YEHUI proposed a Space-Based Flooring Specification.
Both public areas and guest rooms use the same European White Oak Versailles Parquet, ensuring complete visual consistency throughout the hotel.
The difference lies in the internal construction.
| Hotel Area | Producto recomendado | Specification |
| Lobby | European White Oak Versailles Parquet | 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm |
| Reception | European White Oak Versailles Parquet | 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm |
| Corridors | European White Oak Versailles Parquet | 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm |
| Guest Rooms | European White Oak Versailles Parquet | 800 × 800 × 15/3 mm |
| VIP Suites | European White Oak Versailles Parquet | 800 × 800 × 15/4 mm |
All products were manufactured using AB Grade European White Oak, an 11-layer Birch Plywood Core, and a commercial UV Aluminum Oxide matte finish, providing excellent dimensional stability, refinishing capability, and long-term durability.
Why We Recommend This Specification
1. Consistent Luxury Design
Versailles parquet has long been associated with luxury hotels and high-end hospitality projects. Using the same pattern throughout the property creates a seamless visual experience while reinforcing the hotel’s premium identity.
- Different Spaces Require Different Wear Layers
Public areas experience significantly more traffic than guest rooms.
For this reason, YEHUI recommends a 4 mm wear layer in the lobby, reception, corridors, and VIP suites, providing greater refinishing potential and extending the service life of the flooring.
Guest rooms use a 3 mm wear layer, which delivers the same appearance and long-term performance while avoiding unnecessary material costs.
This approach allows developers to optimize their investment without compromising guest experience.
3. European White Oak Offers the Best Balance
Among all commercial wood species, European White Oak remains one of the most reliable choices for hospitality projects.
It combines excellent dimensional stability, natural durability, timeless appearance, and strong compatibility with both modern and classic interior designs.
Its neutral colour also makes future furniture or interior upgrades much easier.
4. Commercial Construction Improves Long-Term Performance
The flooring specification goes beyond the visible surface.
En 11-layer Birch Plywood Core improves structural stability and minimizes movement caused by seasonal humidity changes, while the commercial UV Aluminum Oxide finish provides excellent resistance against scratches, daily wear, and routine hotel maintenance.
Together, these features significantly reduce lifecycle maintenance costs.
Why YEHUI Recommends a Space-Based Flooring Strategy
Many hotel developers believe using the same flooring specification throughout the entire property is the most economical solution.
Based on YEHUI’s project experience, we have found the opposite.
By maintaining the same design while adjusting the wear layer according to traffic intensity, developers achieve three important advantages:
- Consistent architectural appearance throughout the hotel
- Better durability in high-traffic public areas
- More efficient allocation of the flooring budget
Rather than recommending higher specifications everywhere, YEHUI focuses on specifying the right product for the right environment.
Project Result
The recommended flooring package successfully achieved the project’s original objectives.
The hotel maintained a unified luxury appearance across all public and private spaces while optimizing material investment according to actual usage.
The developer benefited from improved lifecycle value, the hotel operator gained a more practical long-term maintenance strategy, and guests experienced the warmth and authenticity of genuine European White Oak throughout their stay.
